Oshodi Council Chairman Attends LAWMA Stateholders Meeting,promises to support Agency in ensuring a cleaner Oshodi.
The Executive chairman of Oshodi-Isolo, Otunba Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede, on Tuesday attended a stakeholders meeting Organized by Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) within the local government Secretariat.
The meeting which had in attendance Lawma CEO/ MD,Mr Ibrahim Odubomi, Lawma monitoring team, representatives of the ministry of Environment, religious leaders, CDC, CDA executives, HODs and staff of Agric and environmental departments as well as Community members converged to chat a way forward on how to achieve a neater environment.
The council chairman who was represented by his CPS, Comrade Soloki Gbenga applauded LAWMA for working towards ensuring that the environment is clean and neat. He noted that as a government at the grassroot level, his administration is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that our environment is clean. He also disclosed that about a month ago, he held a fruitful meeting with the market leaders within Oshodi and charged them to enforce sanitary rules within their domains.
The council boss equally disclosed that his administration will assist the efforts of the market leaders in ensuring cleaning environment,and that process for the creation of market gangs is in the pipeline.
The LAWMA MD,Mr Odubomi noted that Oshodi, being the gateway to Nigeria,the local government cannot be left alone in the sphere of things. He observed that an individual generate 0.69 kilogram of waste and if that is multiplied by the number of people trooping into Lagos State daily, with Oshodi being their first point of call, Oshodi is expected to generate a lot of waste. He averred that the need for a waste bin can not be over-emphasised.
He urged every house, market and even shops to have waste bin in order to prevent rodents from scattering their wastes.
He also implored with the people to bear with Lawma staff if their coming is not regular, noting that their staff are having issues due to the current fuel scarcity ravaging not only the state but the country at large.
He also urged residents to imbibe the habit of separating their plastic wastes from general waste because they will be recycled.
Oshodi Isolo CDC chairman,Alhaji Adisa Olawoyin however urged the agency to continue in their drive towards a cleaner Oshodi, appealing to residents to continue to pay their refuse collection fees to their accredited PSP operators.
Alhaji Olawoyin however commended the PSP operators for their commitment and diligence in the execution of their duties.
